This article describes how to set up your computer to sync SharePoint files using OneDrive for Business. If you're an Office 365 subscriber, but also want to sync across SharePoint site libraries, you can run both Sync Clients at the same time. Office 365 subscribers using OneDrive for Business will generally use the " new" Sync Client, but to sync SharePoint files you must use the " previous" Sync Client. There are two different sync clients in use with OneDrive for Business the " new" or " next generation" OneDrive for Business Sync Client, and the " previous" OneDrive for Business Sync Client. OneDrive uses a sync client to achieve synchronisation.

Whenever you're online, any changes that you or others made while offline will sync automatically. To work with files from SharePoint site libraries directly in File Explorer, and access the files even when you're offline, you can sync the files to your computer using OneDrive for Business. Folder by itself will only end up in “online” Recycle Bin (from where it can be restored).Syncing SharePoint files using OneDrive for Business So if you delete a folder with the files inside, the files will end up in both “online” and computer Recycle Bins (and can be restored from either location). Deleted folders do not end up in the Computer Recycle Bin, just the files.I expect the same functionality for SharePoint as well down the road Moreover, this trick does not work with SharePoint just yet (since it uses an old sync client for now). If you are using an old generation client, this will not work. You have to use the New Generation Sync Client for this to work.You have to sync your OneDrive for Business to your desktop (if you don’t sync files using OneDrive for Business Client, this technique won’t work).Restore files from the computer’s Recycle Bin by dragging them out of the Recycle Bin or by right-clicking on the files and choosing RestoreĬouple of very important notes related to that second option.

Click on Recycle Bin on your computer desktop.So it is just like restoring your regular computer files! If you are using OneDrive for Business sync client, you can also go to your computer’s Recycle Bin and restore files from there as well. This is the trick I learned from Mike Smith.
